Cold plunge · Sauna · Contrast therapy
The best cold plunge and sauna gear, argued from the specs.
Everyone in this category says they tested twenty tubs. We have not tested any, and we say so. What we do instead: compile every published spec, compute the electrical load and the running cost the manufacturers leave out, and show our arithmetic.

- Best chiller

TURBRO 1 HP 9,300 BTU Cold Plunge Chiller
The only chiller here that publishes a BTU figure, which is the number that actually predicts pulldown. That transparency is why it leads.
- Best sauna heater

Harvia KIP80B, 8kW
The default Finnish heater for a mid-size room. Built-in controls keep the install simple, and Harvia publishes the room range — which most brands do not.
- Best plunge tub

Versatyle XXL Ice Bath Tub, Stainless Steel Frame
A steel frame and insulated walls instead of an inflatable ring. That is the difference between a tub that holds temperature and one that fights your chiller.
- Best barrel sauna

Backyard Discovery Paxton 2-4 Person Cedar Barrel Sauna
Real cedar from an established outdoor-structures brand, with a front porch and a Wi-Fi panel. The barrel to buy if you want a known name behind it.
- Best outdoor sauna

Albott Outdoor Infrared Sauna 4 Person, 2850W
The only unit in this entire comparison that publishes its amperage: 2850W, 240V, 20A. Everyone else makes you do the math.
- Best thermometer

Generic Silicone Cover Ice Bath Thermometer with Timer
A thermometer with a timer is the one accessory that changes behaviour: it stops you guessing both the temperature and the duration.

Why we’re different
We don't claim to have tested anything
We own none of these units. Every competitor leads with a countable testing claim; ours would be a lie, so we don't make one. Where someone genuinely has hands-on data, we link to it.
Prices are live, or they're absent
Every price comes from the Amazon API and carries the date it was checked. If our data goes more than 48 hours stale, the numbers disappear on their own and the page says "Check price" instead.
We do the electrical arithmetic
Of every listing we surveyed, exactly one published its amperage. Everyone publishes kW and stops. We compute the draw and the breaker the code requires, and we show the working.
"Not published" is an answer
When a manufacturer doesn't publish a spec, the table says so. A blank cell is a finding about the manufacturer, not a gap we quietly filled with a guess.
How this site is funded
Ice & Cedar earns a commission when you buy through our links, at no extra cost to you. We are an Amazon Associate. We do not sell placement, we do not accept free product, and the ranking is not for sale — if any of that changes, it gets disclosed in the same sentence as the recommendation.
